In order to bring out his subject, the painter places it on a green/blue background as dark as deep, contrasting with the brown coat of the dog.
The artist depicts the dog with precision, which anchors the impression of realism of the painting. Indeed, we clearly observe the folds present on his head, the small bump on his nose as well as his slightly flabby neck. The look is an important element of Igor Ly’s works: through him, he manages to transmit a strong emotion making the work touching.

BIOGRAPHIE
Autodidacte, Igor Ly passe son enfance à dessiner des animaux, sous la houlette d'un grand-père qui modelait des figurines d'animaux pour une firme de jouets, et n'a jamais cessé de le faire depuis, d'abord au cours de ses études, puis aujourd'hui encore parallèlement à son activité d'enseignant-chercheur à l'Université d'Aix-Marseille. À l'opposé d'une recherche artificielle d'originalité ou d'effets spectaculaires dont le charme n'est jamais qu'éphémère, son travail se caractérise par une quête de justesse, d'élégance, de caractère et de vérité, en particulier dans ses portraits de chiens et de chevaux dont la profondeur est celle de l'histoire multimillénaire qu'ils partagent avec les hommes.
