Sculpture animalière en bronze représentant un léopard des neiges (Panthera uncia) en posture d'observation, assis sur une terrasse rectangulaire intégrée en bronze patiné à l'imitation d'un sol rocheux escarpé.

Cette œuvre magistrale de Jean-Baptiste Vendamme capture avec force et noblesse l’essence du « fantôme des montagnes ».
L'artiste choisit ici une posture hybride d’une grande tension dramatique : le félin est assis, mais son avant-main se dresse verticalement sur des membres antérieurs puissants et parallèles, traduisant une vigilance absolue. C'est l'attitude en "assis-prêt" : contrairement à une posture de marche basse, le félin est représenté ici dans une position assise mais en alerte. L'avant du corps est redressé, solidement campé sur des pattes antérieures massives et parallèles, prêtes à l'action.
Le dos forme une diagonale descendante vers l'arrière-train qui est tapi, tandis que le cou puissant s'élève pour porter la tête haute. Le visage est légèrement tourné de trois-quarts (profil droit prédominant), simulant un mouvement d'observation aux aguets.
À l'arrière, la croupe basse s'étire dans une superbe ligne horizontale soulignée par la longue queue épaisse, caractéristique morphologique majeure de l’espèce, qui se déploie sur toute la longueur du socle.

Fidèle à sa facture expressionniste moderne, Vendamme rejette le lissage académique au profit d'un modelage vigoureux et instinctif.  La surface est composée d'une multitude de touches nerveuses, de stries et de méplats laissés lors du modelage de la terre pour la réalisation du "prototype".
La surface du bronze conserve l'empreinte vibrante du travail de la terre initiale.

Ce traitement texturé ne cherche pas à imiter le pelage de manière littérale, mais en suggère superbement la densité hivernale, la puissance musculaire et de vitalité sauvage. Les arcades sourcilières et les contours de la mâchoire sont sculptés par des volumes anguleux très graphiques.

La patine sombre, subtilement nuancée de reflets chocolatés dans les creux, confère à l'animal une présence monolithique, presque sacrée, faisant écho à la puissance brute et à la fragilité de cette espèce sauvage menacée.

This masterful work by Jean-Baptiste Vendamme powerfully and nobly captures the essence of the “ghost of the mountains.”

Here, the artist has chosen a hybrid posture of great dramatic tension: the feline is seated, but its forepaws are raised vertically on powerful, parallel front legs, conveying absolute vigilance. This is the “seated-ready” stance: unlike a crouched walking posture, the feline is depicted here in a seated yet alert position. The front of the body is upright, firmly planted on massive, parallel front legs, ready for action.

The back forms a downward diagonal toward the crouched hindquarters, while the powerful neck rises to hold the head high. The face is turned slightly in a three-quarter view (with the right profile predominant), simulating a watchful, observant stance.

At the rear, the low croup stretches out in a superb horizontal line emphasized by the long, thick tail—a major morphological characteristic of the species—which extends the full length of the base.

This textured treatment does not seek to imitate the fur literally, but superbly suggests its wintry density while creating a highly dynamic interplay of light.
The dark patina, subtly nuanced with chocolate-brown highlights in the recesses, lends the animal a monolithic, almost sacred presence, echoing the raw power and fragility of this endangered wild species.
